Dogs
Dogs are always happy to see you. When you get home, they wag their tail, and might try to jump on your chest and give you a big, wet lick or a kiss. Dogs are loyal and friendly. Some are more aggressive to strangers, such as a guard dog. However, other dogs love strangers and enjoy being pet. Some love children, some love adults, some like small animals, some like to herd and some like to hunt. Each dog is different. They can be big, small, thin, fat, hairless, hairy, have a small tongue, or have a big tongue. There are many breeds, many personalities. Each one is unique.
Just like any other animal, dogs need exercise, baths, trips to the vet, a collar and ID tag, Some need flea medicine and other things dogs sometimes require. They will need you to pick up after them, including their poop. Always carry a plastic bag when you walk them, so you do not leave dog poop for your neighbors.
If you have a show dog, then you might go to a breeder who breeds pure bred dogs. Then you would take special precautions to make sure that your dog was in the best health and condition you are able to achieve. However, if your dog were merely a housedog, you might not go to the extreme measures as some people do.
Most dogs also need training. The mandatory “sit,” “lay down,” or even “fetch” are commands that you might be able to teach them on your own. However, if your dog needs it, or if you just want to train them better than you think you would be able to do, you might consider taking them to obedience school or to a trainer.
Many factors determine what type of dog you might get. These factors include:
- If you have other small animals in your house
- If you have children in your house
- If you want a guard dog, an active dog or housedog
- If a family member has allergies
- How much room the dog will have outside
- How much room the dog will have inside
You need to consider the type of dog that would best fit your family.
A dog is an animal that will love you with all of his or her heart, and will be a good companion for you once you have become friends.
