The Lake House
The Lake House is a new romance film featuring Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves. In the movie, Sandra and Keanu play a couple living in different time periods. Sandra’s character, Kate, lives in the year 2006, while Keanu’s character, Alex, lives in the year 2004. The movie begins when Kate moves out of her lake house and leaves a letter for the new owner in the mailbox. Alex is the new owner and he writes back. Before long, they fall in love. The one catch is that Alex and Kate are living two years apart. The rest of the movie follows Alex and Kate’s attempt to be together.
Overall, the movie is boring. The plot is predictable and the acting was poor. Despite its PG rating, I don’t think that either pre-teens or teens would like this movie. The Lake House isn’t very teen-friendly—it seems as though the movie is marketed more towards adults. Save your money—The Lake House isn’t worth your 10 dollars.
The Lake House
Although I agree that preteens might find The Lake House boring, I loved this movie and think many teens (girls) may like the romance and emotion created by the characters’ true love that seems destined to stay just out of reach. I also believe many people will relate to the emotional struggles of the main characters associated with parents, siblings, finding a life purpose and developing healthy intimate relationships. Maybe I am just a sap, but I had a good cry and loved the challenge created by the time difference and the synchronicity of their lives.
