Seventeen isn’t that different from all other teen magazines, with advice that is standard and sometimes useful. For example, some issues feature what to do if you are sunburned or how to tell the difference between having a cold or the flu. The fashion and make-up advice isn’t revolutionary, but it’s basic and fun. The ads are appropriate, and there is a variety of article types -- beauty, fashion, health, real life, stars and "fun stuff."

The health information is easy to follow but it has narrow range (usually exercise and weight) and definitely doesn’t replace a doctor. The real life stories are sad, sometimes featuring suicides, murders or accidental deaths. Parts of the magazine are season-specific but most of the information doesn’t depend on what month it is. Seventeen is a relaxing read, good for just hanging out and taking a break.
