May 2008

In March 2008, PAMF’s Dublin Center celebrated its one-year anniversary of providing care to Tri-Valley area patients. However, the Center is not resting on its laurels and is continuing to expand the types of services it offers. With the recent addition of Steven Bartis, DPM, and Tobias Paiva, D.O., to the Dublin Center team of health care providers, patients can now receive podiatric and sports medicine care at the same convenient location where they receive their primary care.

Podiatry

As an avid triathlete, cyclist and marathoner, Dr. Bartis knows first-hand how foot problems can impact one’s life. That’s why he’s providing the full spectrum of podiatry services to Dublin Center patients of all ages, from routine care to foot and ankle fractures and sprains to diabetic foot care.

“The feet carry us through our lives, and it can be debilitating when someone has a foot or ankle problem, whether it be a sports-related injury or a problem due to a structural defect in the foot or a chronic medical condition, such as diabetes,” said Dr. Bartis, who received his DPM degree from California College of Podiatric Medicine in San Francisco, and completed his residency at Stanford University Medical Center and the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

Dr. Bartis, who also provides podiatric care at the Fremont Center several days a week, sees patients for routine foot care such as treatment for ingrown toenails, calluses, corns, blisters, bunions, warts and nail fungus to more complex conditions and injuries that require surgery. He also has sub-specialty certification in sports medicine, which allows him to diagnose and treat the unique foot and ankle problems that athletes face, such as Achilles tendon sprains and plantar fasciitis.

Sports Medicine

Although Tobias Paiva, D.O., is an internal medicine physician, his experience as a life-long athlete inspired him to sepcialize in sports medicine. He recently joined the Internal Medicine and Sports Medicine departments at PAMF’s Dublin Center to provide primary care to patients of all ages and to keep athletes in the Tri-Valley area stay healthy.

Dr. Paiva is a former collegiate athlete and holds records in cross country running, an experience that he says helps him understand the unique concerns and medical problems of athletes.

After receiving his D.O. degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and completing his residency at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, Dr. Paiva did a fellowship in sports medicine at Toledo Hospital in Ohio, and worked with the U.S. military as a physician.

At the Dublin Center, Dr. Paiva performs joint injections and osteopathic manipulation (improving the function of the joints, muscles, bones and other tissues through a series of spinal adjustments and movements); examines, diagnoses and treats body mechanics issues; and advises on a large variety of sports at both the competitive and recreational level.
“Patients have a unique care experience at the Dublin Center because we offer the personal attention and environment of a small clinic with all of the benefits and amenities of a large, state-of-the-art organization, including electronic health records and brand-new facilities with on-site radiology and laboratory services,” he said. “And we have great doctors and staff who truly have great interest in providing the best possible care.”
