Since the Integrated Healthcare Association (IHA) first began tracking performance measures for California physician groups, the physicians affiliated with PAMF have been in the top 20 percent on statewide performance measures with such regularity that one might almost take it for granted. Philip Brosterhous, M.D., chief medical officer of the Palo Alto Foundation Medical Group (PAFMG) does not.

“This past year was one of tremendous change for the physicians that make up PAFMG, and the fact that we continue to be in the top 20 percent of California physician groups based on statewide pay for performance program (P4P) measures is a tremendous honor and confirmation of the excellence and quality of our physicians and our organization,” he says.

IHA’s P4P program is the largest physician incentive program in the United States. It involves 35,000 physicians caring for more than 10.5 million individuals.

IHA assess physician groups based on objective measures of clinical quality, patient experience and information technology. Composite scores from these three measurement domains are weighted by importance with clinical quality scores counting the most. These scores are then used to create a single overall score that reflects the relative quality of various medical organizations.

The performance measures are available to patients who wish to see how PAFMG compares to other physician groups they might consider for their health care. The report is available online.
