The Fremont Center offers a variety of support groups on health topics of interest to the community. There is no charge to attend a support group. Please view the descriptions below and decide of one of the support groups is right for you. You can also call the Community Health Resource Center at 510-623-2231 for more information or to register.

Sleep Apnea Support Group

The Palo Alto Medical Foundation hosts the East Bay meeting of the ASAA A.W.A.K.E. Network. The A.W.A.K.E. Network is composed of hundreds of mutual-help support groups in nearly all 50 states for people affected by sleep apnea. Meetings are patient-centered and led by the A.W.A.K.E. coordinator. Topics may include advice on complying with CPAP therapy, legal issues affecting those with sleep apnea, weight loss and new research findings. The presentation isfollowed by a time for questions and answers.

A Mother's Place: Support for New Moms

Come and join other new moms during the first three months after giving birth, or "fourth trimester," for support and advice. You can also meet with a midwife and lactation consultant to ensure your first weeks of motherhood are the healthy and happy. This support group includes the following activities and information:

  • Newborn weight checks and hands-on breastfeeding help
  • Healing for new moms
  • Newborn issues, including umbilical cord care, breastfeeding and bottle feeding techniques, breast pumping, diaper changing, bathing and more
  • Emotional support and calming techniques for mom and baby
When: Every Thursday, 11 a.m to 1 p.m.

Breast Cancer Survivorship Group

This group is for women who have completed breast cancer treatment and are looking for support in getting back to, or creating a new sense of "normal" in their lives. Emphasis will be on finding meaning, setting priorities, and moving forward - together with other women who understand.

When: Next meeting - December 2, 2009, 6 - 8 p.m.
