Single 3-hour session offered monthly, covering: causes and consequences of insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome, prevention of diabetes and heart disease, dietary and exercise guidelines.

- Benefits of weight loss of 5-10% of current body weight, if needed
- Type, benefits and goals for exercise
- Diabetic emergencies and sick-day management
- Prediabetes- nutrition goals
- starter diet provided
- reduction/low saturated and trans fat
- lean protein sources
- portion control of carbohydrates
- glycemic index of foods
- label reading for calories, fat, saturated fat and carbohydrate
- increasing/maintaining high fiber intake
