Our bodies have joints which allow us to walk, sit, bend, reach and write. Without the capability to move our bodies to accomplish these tasks our quality of life is greatly affected. Sometimes in our lives these joints become damaged or diseased and cause much pain and limitations to our movements. Joint replacement is a very common treatment which can give us back some of the basic skills we sometimes take for granted.

What is Joint Replacement?

Joint replacement is the resurfacing of an arthritic or damaged joint incorporating an artificial joint made from prosthetic materials. Total joint replacement helps to relieve pain in the joint caused by damaged or diseased cartilage. The majority of joint replacements in the United States are performed on the hip and knee. Replacement of other joints including, ankle, elbow, shoulder and fingers are available, however performed less often.

The orthopedic doctors and staff at the Mountain View Center are ready to work with you to help determine if joint replacement is your best option and will help to improve your quality of life.
